Effects of lift joints on Dam structure | Analysis of dam structures subjected to seismic structures | Download USACE for dynamic analysis of concrete dam structures

The performance of a  #dam  under  #earthquake  loading depends on various factors such as the dam  #design ,  #construction  quality, foundation conditions, seismic hazard, and intensity of ground shaking and the same is controlled by the tensile strength of the concrete, by tensile crack propagation. But, the actual tensile strength used in the performance evaluation of the dam should be determined by taking into account the effects of lift joints. The ultimate tensile strength of the parent concrete (concrete without joints) obtained from static load testing must be adjusted to account for lower strength at construction joints and strain rate effects. It is not reasonable to expect the bonding at construction joints to be equal to that of the parent concrete. The tensile strength of conventional mass concrete joints cleaned by a high-pressure water jet is approximately 70% of the tensile strength of the parent concrete as per  #USACE   EM ...

Flood Frequency Analysis, Download Excel file for Flood frequency analysis

Problem Statement:  Estimate the magnitude of flood having a recurrence interval of 100 years by Gumbel’s method. Step-1 a. Data is arranged in descending order and calculate Ǭ and σ for the series of the noted maximum flood discharges. b. The magnitude of the flood corresponding to a given recurrence interval T may be estimated as described below Ǭ (Arithmetic mean of all the flood discharges in series) = ΣQ /n = 1843 = 1894.481 Step-2 a. For a given each value of T calculate yT by using the below equation: b. Calculate Reduced mean Ȳn and Reduced Standard deviation (Sv) using the below table: Step-3 a. For a given value of T calculate yT b. Determine the value of KT by using below equation and follow table c. Area Capacity Curve | Reservoir Capacity Curve | Download Excel file for area capacity curve

Introduction An area capacity curve, also known as a reservoir capacity curve or a capacity-elevation curve, is a graphical representation of the relationship between the water surface elevation of a dam or reservoir, and the corresponding area of the reservoir that is flooded. The curve is typically plotted with the water surface elevation on the y-axis and the corresponding area of the reservoir on the x-axis. In dam projects, the area capacity curve is used to determine the storage capacity of a reservoir at various water surface elevations. This information is important for the design and operation of the dam, as it determines the amount of water that can be stored in the reservoir at different times of the year, and how much water can be released to meet downstream demands. The curve is also useful for determining the flood control capacity of the reservoir. The area capacity curve is determined through a combination of field surveys, topographic maps, and hydrologic and hy...
